In the mid 1880s, the brothers

                  Mayo transformed the rural

        community of Rochester,Minnesota,

   into an internationally acclaimed center

of medical excellence.  In the early

1900s, physicians from North America

and Europe flocked to the Mayo

Clinic to learn from the best. And they

did!

The Mayo Clinic was a household name

for many of us while growing up.

Its image creates an emotional comfort

that represents over 120 years of proven

medical success.

The Mayo Clinic and its Cancer Center

is the research base and statistical center

for several National Cancer Institute-

sponsored research networks, including

the North Central Cancer Treatment

Group and the American College of

Surgeons and Oncology Group. Several

decades ago, the Mayo Clinic expanded

to Jacksonville, Florida.

Now their presence is  extending to

 The Villages!

As of December 3, 2010, we are pleased

to announce our affiliation with the

Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Research

Network. This unique consortium will

offer residents in our region clinical

studies available to all Mayo patients,

delivered locally in The Villages.

Under the guidance and direction of

this  affiliation, patients can receive

optimal care in the comfort of their

home community. Select surgeons,

radiation and medical oncologists in

our locale will participate in these

protocols. Because of the long-standing

respect for one another as well as our

high level of accreditation, the Mayo

Clinic Cancer Center Research Network

will be utilizing the resources and

expertise of the Robert Boissoneault

Oncology Institute to deliver radiation

oncology care. Since all of the required

technical/treatment support is already

in place, there is no requirement

for donations of any kind.

"We feel it is time for residents

to focus … on their cure"
